Your Visit
We look forward to meeting you and your child!
Here is what you can expect from your first consultation, depending on the visit type:
New Developmental Consultation (1 hour)
The first visit for developmental assessments (learning or mental health problems) will be done virtually or in person, depending on the reason for referral. Dr. Tsai will see all patients in person at one point, but often because the initial consultation is lengthy, many children find it challenging to sit still for an hour in the office.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Tsai will elicit details about your concern for your child. This also includes a review of relevant past medical history and developmental milestones. This process can be expedited if you fill out the intake questionnaire, leaving more time for the doctor to address your primary concerns. The intake questionnaire also screens for other mental health or developmental issues that may be important for your child's diagnosis, and therefore it is important that it be completed before the appointment so the doctor can review it before your visit.
During the appointment, typically Dr. Tsai will speak to the parent(s) with the child together at first, then to the parent(s) alone, then the child alone for children who are old enough for this.
After the initial consultation, Dr. Tsai will make recommendations and a follow up appointment will be arranged.
New Medical Consultation (30 minutes)
Medical consultations are done in person at South Surrey Pediatrics.
Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time so our office staff can obtain your height, weight, and blood pressure for applicable patients.
Dr. Tsai will meet with you and your child together. The visit will consist of an interview, followed by a physical examination, concluding with a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment.
Follow up appointment (15 or 30 minutes)
Follow up appointments are done either in person, virtually via Zoom (our office will send you a link. If you cannot find a link in your email or spam folder, please call our office to ask for it again), or via phone. The receptionist will inform you which type of follow up this is. If you have an appointment on a Saturday, this will be virtual or phone (our office is not open for in person visits on Saturdays).
